Day Four - 23 September, 2007
| |
| | | Today's results also saw the Australasian Pro Junior Series decided with a well deserved overall series win to Maroochydore's Mitch Coleborn. While Coleborn was eliminated in the opening heat of the day, his only rival Heath Joske (Coff's Harbour region) was unable to capitalise on the opportunity and was eliminated in his quarter final leaving Coleborn with an unassailable lead on season ratings.
For Coleborn the series win is well deserved. He's already won four individual events this season and will be going for an unprecedented five wins at Bells Beach next week.
Just prior to departing after his elimination Coleborn said, "Mixed feelings really, I've been eliminated from a heat I should have advanced through and not long after I've secured the series - That's OK but right now I'd rather be surfing in the semi's and finals - I'll focus on Bells and try and finish the season on a really big note!"
While the series has been decided, the actual all important final four ratings positions, which decide the qualifiers for the ASP Billabong World Pro Junior Championships in Sydney in January 2008, are still undecided following this event and positions 2, 3 and 4 are open which will ensure a monumental battle at the famous Bells Beach arena during the first week of October!
Joske and Wilson are no longer a certainty while surfers like Jayke Sharpe, Beau Atchison, Brendan Leckie, Nick Riley and Owen Wright's performances at the Aloha Hornet Pro Junior have thrown them right into contention.
Jayke Sharpe (Coffs Harbour) and Beau Atchison (Central Coast) placed equal third today, both surprise eliminations in their semi finals. | |
| | While today's Aloha Hornet finalists are not in a position to challenge for a top four finish, they will go to Bells Beach confident they can match the best and with the overall winner receiving a wild card position into the ASP Billabong World Pro Junior Championships, they still have an avenue into that event.
It sets the scene for an epic climax to the ASP Australasian Pro Junior season at Bells Beach in just over one week's time!
