Ahrens Wins Arrive Alive Airshow
Romain Coliersmall
Local Curl Curl surfer Steve Ahrens took out the Arrive alive Airshow at Sydney's South Curl Curl on Saturday (29th of Dec.), defeating a host of international aerial specialists to win Aus $500.

Ahrens defeated heat leader Craig Anderson (NSW) in the dying moments of their 20 minute heat, producing a massive front side aerial manoeuvre, scoring a 7.50 (out of ten) to snatch first place from Anderson who finished in second.

"I'm so stoked to win the Arrive Alive Airshow," Ahrens said. "There were so many great aerial surfers in the event and to win at my home beach feels really special."

"This is the third aerial title I've claimed this year and it's a form I really feel comfortable in," Ahrens continued. "I'm hoping to do even more aerial contests next year and I'd like to thank Arrive Alive for supporting the event and I'm hoping to defend my title here next year."

Finishing in third place was South African standout Beyrick De Vries who was not far behind the heat leaders with a 6.00 score, while Central Coast surfer Matt Wilkinson was fourth and local North Sydney surfer Davey Cathels (North Narabeen) finished in fifth .

Event Director Adam Hennessey spoke saying -
"It was a awesome event, great weather with some amazing surfing taking place. Hundreds of people turned out during the four days to watch these kids and the standard was truly unbelievable. The Allive/Alive final saw these guys really unleash and Steve Ahrens was a deserved winner. He sat on the southern bank with Craig Anderson who lead for most of the heart and his patience paid off.
"It's great to have Arrive/Alive as a partner of the event as they send a really strong message to the youth of this country regarding road safety and responsibility."

The Ocean and Earth International Teenage event saw 220 competitors from around the country take to the beautiful waters off Sydney for four days in the sun and the action was electric from the outset.
The event also attracted 30 overseas surfers who had a blast of a time in Sydney.
