Class International Field set for Ocean and Earth Teenage Rampage Sydney's Northern Beaches
| |
| | Many of the world's best young surfers will line up in the Ocean and Earth Teenage Rampage on Sydney's Northern Beaches during the last week of our 2007 year.
An amazing field of exciting young surfers lead by the Australian's with Matt Wilkinson (Copacabanna/NSW) and Laura Enever (Narrabeen/Sydney) the number one seeds in the under 20 Male and Female divisions.
Event Director Adam Hennessey commented on the event saying "Since its inception in 1999 this event has grown into one of the premiere junior contests in this country. The honour roll includes some of the most exciting prospects ever to hit the world stage and many of those surfers have gone onto bigger things like Jordy Smith (Sth Africa), Jeremy Flores (France) and Ben Dunn, all now competing in the WCT ranks. Its truly a international event these days and you only have to look at the entry list to see just how highly regarded the event is outside of Australia. In 2007 surfers from 10 different countries will descend onto Sydney' Curl Curl beach for what will be a look into the future of the sport . We are also excited to have Ocean and Earth taking on the major sponsorship role with the iconic brand one of the leaders in developing junior surfing within this country."
Number one seed Matt Wilkinson commented on the event saying "It's a seriously strong event and with all the unknown overseas surfers coming in to compete it's exciting to surf in. We have so many high level events coming up in January the Ocean and Earth Teenage Rampage is the ideal way to prepare."
Newly crowned Australian 18's Girls champion Laura Enever (Narrabeen) is regarded by many as the next big thing in surfing and the local will call on her home town support base as she aim to become the first female to claim both the 16's and 20's crown
"Its going to be so much fun and I'm looking forward to the challenge that the event will bring. It's really grown into one of the biggest events of the year and its great as you get to hang out with all the international surfers as well. There are some really strong surfers in the draw and being in two divisions will give me plenty of opportunity to get some heats under my belt before the worlds start."
Former winners include:
