2008 SDU Athlete Profiles - Open Men's

Kurt Fearnley - Australia
Kurt Fearnley is the defending Champion of the Open Men's category in the Arrive alive Oz Day 10k International Wheelchair Road Race.

As a duel Paralympian Kurt has represented Australia at the Sydney 2000 and Athens 2004 Paralympic Games. In Sydney Kurt won Silver in the 800m event and Silver in the relay. At the Athens Paralympic Games Kurt came of age winning Gold in the 5000m and Marathon events.

In 2007 Kurt won the 10 of 11 the Marathons he raced in throughout the world (and was second in the 1 he didn't win!) including the prestigious New York and Chicago Marathons. At the 2007 IAAF World Athletic Championships Kurt won Gold in the 1500m.

On current form Kurt is definitely the athlete all the Open Men want to beat and he will have strong competition from many of the international competitors.

Jun Hiromichi - Japan
Jun Hiromichi is competing in his fifth Arrive alive Summer Down Under Series. He is a duel Paralympian having represented Japan at the Sydney 2000 and Athens 2004 Paralympic Games where he won Silver in the 800m in Sydney and Bronze in the same event in Athens.

Jun is recognised as both a track and road athlete and is the current holder of the National Marathon record time in Japan.

Jun is in Australia with a team of Japanese competitors and together the team will have a strong presence in the Series.

Masazumi Soejima - Japan
Masazumi Soejima is returning to Sydney for his second Arrive alive Summer Down Under Series. He is a Paralympic representative winning Bronze in the 4x400m relay in Athens and placing 10th in the Paralympic Marathon.

In 2007 Masazumi won the Boston and Honolulu Marathons. He will definitely be a strong contender both on the track and road in this year's Summer Down Under Series.
